45° Spigot Elbow PE100 SDR 7.4 — Heavy-Duty Direction Change Butt Fusion Fitting

The PE100 45° spigot elbow (SDR 7.4) is the heavy-wall high-pressure direction change fitting of the butt fusion programme — rated Water PN25. Its gentle 45° sweep turns the pipeline with lower head loss and less turbulence than a 90° bend, while the thick SDR 7.4 wall delivers the strength demanded by fire hydrant mains, long-distance transmission lines and abrasive duty service.

Manufactured from virgin PE100 black polyethylene supplied by recognised polymer leaders such as Borealis and Ineos, our spigot elbows carry full batch traceability. The one-piece moulded construction produces a smooth bore with no seams, maximising flow and eliminating stress concentration points. Long spigot ends give the welder generous clamping and fusion space, while factory-chamfered ends follow DVS 2207 / ISO 21307 welding procedures.

The range covers d25mm to d315mm as standard stock, with d20 and d355–d500 produced on request. Each fitting is individually marked with size, SDR, standard and batch codes.

Typical Applications

  • Fire hydrant and fire protection mains (underground water supply)
  • High-pressure water transmission and trunk supply lines (PN25)
  • Abrasive duty pipework — slurry, mining and sand handling lines
  • Municipal water networks requiring gradual direction change
  • Butt fusion PE100 systems where electrofusion is not available

45° Spigot Elbow SDR 7.4 PN25 Butt Fusion PE100 Elbow for Fire Mains and Abrasive Duty Pipework

Key Features & Benefits

  • 45° gentle sweep — lower pressure loss and reduced turbulence vs 90° turns
  • SDR 7.4 heavy wall — the thickest, strongest wall class in the PE100 programme
  • PN25 rating — rated for high-pressure water and fire mains duty
  • Moulded one-piece construction — smooth bore, no seams, no weak points
  • Butt fusion jointing — full-strength PE-to-PE weld per DVS 2207 / ISO 21307
  • Long spigot ends — generous clamping and fusion space for the welder
  • Factory-chamfered ends — ready for immediate butt fusion on site
  • Full traceability — batch-coded virgin PE100 (Borealis/Ineos grade)

Why Choose 45° Instead of 90°?

For fire hydrant mains and long transmission runs, a 45° elbow reduces the direction change stress and pressure loss compared with a 90° bend, extending pump range and protecting joints against surge. Where a gradual alignment change is possible, 45° fittings are the preferred choice of pipeline engineers.

Available Sizes — Moulded 45° Long Spigot Elbow, SDR 7.4 (PN25)

Heavy-wall note: SDR 7.4 = outer diameter / wall thickness ratio 7.4 — the thickest PE100 wall class, rated Water PN25. Always weld to PE pipe of the matching SDR. Z/L dimensions follow the ISO 8085-3 series convention for moulded long spigot elbows; dimension sheets and CAD models supplied on request.

Product Standards & Certifications

All spigot fittings are manufactured from certified PE100 virgin material and tested against international piping system standards. Production is backed by ISO 9001 and ISO 29001 quality management systems.

  • EN 12201-3 — Plastics piping systems for water supply — Polyethylene (PE) — Part 3: Fittings (PN25)
  • ISO 4427-3 — Plastics piping systems for water supply — Polyethylene (PE) — Part 3: Fittings
  • ISO 8085-3 — Polyethylene fittings for piping systems — dimensional series for socket/spigot fittings
  • DVS 2207 / ISO 21307 — Butt fusion jointing procedures for PE pipes and fittings
  • ISO 9001 / ISO 29001 — Quality management for pipeline product manufacture

Note: SDR 7.4 fittings are rated Water PN25. Other wall classes (SDR 9 / 11 / 17) available in the same 45° spigot elbow range. Certificates on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our PE100 spigot elbows

What is a 45° spigot elbow?+
A 45° spigot elbow is a moulded PE100 fitting that changes pipeline direction by 45 degrees, with plain pipe-end (spigot) connections on both sides for butt fusion jointing directly to PE pipe of the same SDR.
What is the SDR 7.4 elbow rated for?+
SDR 7.4 is the heavy-wall high-pressure class of PE100, rated PN25 for water service. It is the thickest wall available in the spigot programme, suited to demanding duty.
Why choose a 45° elbow instead of a 90° elbow?+
A 45° elbow produces a gentler direction change, reducing pressure loss and turbulent flow. It is preferred for long-distance mains, fire hydrant runs and where gradual alignment is needed to limit stress on joints.
Which sizes are available?+
The moulded 45° spigot elbow is available from d20mm to d500mm, with d25-315mm in our standard stock range and larger sizes produced on request.
How is the elbow joined to the pipe?+
Spigot ends are butt-fusion welded to PE100 pipe using a butt fusion machine per DVS 2207 / ISO 21307. Ends are chamfered at the factory for a clean weld.
